Medical Attention for Children

Children are dying and suffering because they can’t afford medical treatment. It costs only $2.50 to $5.00 for a doctor’s visit. Medications are always extra. However, a family with both parents and two children working earn only $4.00 a day. Most often they have no option to provide medical attention to their children.

This child’s parents can’t afford to take him to a doctor. They have tried to apply salve to his boils but it isn’t doing any good.

Continuing Education

Many children are unable to go to school because they are forced to work just so a family can meet their basic needs. Saul is helping by providing education and helping those who do go to school to excel by tutoring them after school. Without an education the same cycle of poverty will condemn each generation to the suffering of slavery or near slavery conditions.

Older children can’t continue their education without having school uniforms.

These children have received school material, backpacks, and uniforms.

Rescue from Slavery

12-year-old Shazia lived in Sahiwal, a city where Saul has gone many times to teach poor people. She was living there and working day and night for a rich family. They were paying her only 1000 Rupee ($10.25) monthly to work 24 hours a day in their house. She was not paid for the last 8 months. This girl was working in a rich house where all facilities were available but only for the owner’s children. She was without warm clothes and she was not being provided food for two or three days at a time. This family did not allow her to meet parents because she would ask them to take her back from that home. But the parents were afraid of rich man and his wife so they did nothing.

On 19 January 2009 she was raped by the owner’s 19 years old boy. She wanted to run away from house but the owner and his family tortured her. They plucked her nails from her small fingers. Her arms, legs and ribs were broken with a steel rod. They made lot of cuts on her small feet so that she could not run from their house. They also tried to give her sleeping pills because she was crying with pain. On 22 of January her parents went to meet their child but the family did not allow them to see her because she was unconscious. When her mother started to cry outside of the house, the owner took her in and told her that her daughter had fallen from a ladder. They gave her 15,000 Rupee ($180) to keep quiet. They also threaten her that they would report her to the Police claiming that the mother and daughter both stole money and gold from their house.

The poor parents took their daughter to a hospital while she was unconscious. A lady doctor examined her and said that she had been raped and tortured badly. This doctor had already heard the story from the poor parents and she started to care for Shazia. In the evening of 22 January this little angel died due to torture and bleeding from her belly because she was raped badly. The parents were afraid of this rich man but the doctor called the police and Pakistani Media to the hospital to show them her dead body. The police did not take any action against this man because he is among famous lawyers of Pakistan. The police were afraid of him as he also threatens them. He gave them bribes to keep quiet but TV channels and news papers did not quit. They showed this as breaking news on TV. Many from all over Lahore gathered there before the Punjab Assembly where chief ministers of Punjab were meeting.

Because of security reasons, we can’t provide details of how other girls are rescued because they often have to remain in hiding. Their location may place their sponsors in jeopardy.

You can help save young girls from tragedies like this!

Providing Vocational Training

Vocational Training

Resurrection Hope Sewing School was established in November of 2009 to provide vocational training for young women. This was a long time dream of Saul’s.

Sewing machines, material, irons, scissors and pressing tables, as well as pay for a sewing teacher have been provided. This project was originally started with the help of Sign Post International and completed by Vertical World Solutions.

In Pakistan many young girls have to earn a living by working as maids. Sadly many of these girls are ill-treated in the homes where they work and forced to do extra work without salary. If they refuse they are tortured by their employers or dismissed from their jobs, and rape is commonplace. By teaching young girls how to sew, they will be able to remain in their own homes and earn an alternative living by making clothes to sell. Illiterate girls will also have the opportunity to learn to read and write while at the sewing school.

This work requires ongoing support. You can help!

Food for the Hungry

In Arifwala and the surrounding villages, there are poor families that barely make enough to survive each month. There are also homeless camps because they can’t pay for housing. Children and adults go hungry every day. $5.00 will feed one family for about six days. Is there a way you can cut back, send $5.00 to Pakistan and feed one family for six days?

You can see one of the hungry children in the homeless camp and Saul distributing food at Christmas.
